Career Highlights
1993
Professor Qiao started his work in the field of endoscopic surgery. He has performed over 4,000 laparoscopic surgeries, more than 1,000 choledochoscopic procedures, and over 2,000 endoscopic gallbladder surgeries.
2006
He became the first to carry out a new type of minimally invasive gallstone removal surgery under the guidance of Professor Zhang Baoshan. He also created a team of specialists dedicated to gallbladder research, making significant technological advancements in the field.
2008
Professor Qiao developed his own brand of endoscopes and received national patents for the production of medical equipment. He also founded and headed the Institute of Gallbladder Diseases at the Scientific Research Center for Hepatobiliary and Intestinal Surgery of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China, which remains the country’s only institution focused on the study of gallbladder diseases.
2009
At the 19th National Chinese Medical Conference in Hong Kong, he was honored with the highest award for outstanding achievements in the field of state endoscopy.
At this date, Professor Qiao has already received more than 900 national patents.
Key Achievements at work
- He was the first in China to use a solid choledochoscope for gallstone and polyp removal surgeries.
- He invented high-tech equipment: a protective box to prevent damage to the gallbladder’s mucous membrane, a mucosal fixator, and a gallstone extraction box.
- He discovered and studied the true cause of high postoperative relapse rates — relic stones.
- Using a solid endoscope, he identified the blood vessels supplying polyps in the gallbladder, enabling more accurate risk predictions and treatment planning.
- He invented 7 methods for extracting stones through pushing, pressing, crowding, tearing, bracing, expulsion, and suction.
- Professor Qiao created his own brand of endoscopic equipment for gallstone and polyp removal.
- He developed a unique technology for restoring bile duct function and patency using solid endoscopy through moderate negative pressure.
- He invented the technology of ultrasound endoscopy and the diagnosis of stones in the walls of the gallbladder using micro-ultrasonic waves, which allows for precise identification of the gallbladder wall structure, as well as the early detection of pathological changes and neoplasms.
In 2022, an updated line of 4th-generation endoscopes was released for gallbladder-preserving surgery. In 2023, a unique microscope was introduced, the first of its kind in the world, designed to determine the structure of bile, stones, polyps, tissues, and any formations. This innovation helps reduce the risk of recurrence from 7% to minimal levels.
