DrQiao

Director of Institute of Gallbladder Disease of National Hepatobiliary & Enteric Surgery Research Center,

Ministry of Health, P. R. China, Director of Institute of Gallbladder Disease, Guangzhou

Inventor of endoscopes, member of the Chinese invention association

Vice-chairman of science and technology association of Guangzhou

Torchbearer of the 16th Guang Zhou Asian Games in 2010

President of the People's Hospital, Guangzhou

Editorial Member of China Journal of Endoscopy and many other medical journals.

In 1982, he graduated from medical college of Xi'an and made an advanced study in the hepatobiliary surgery department of the southwest hospital affiliated to the third military medical university.

Since 1993,he has been engaging in the surgical work of laparoscope and has successfully carried out more than 4000 laparoscopic operations, over 1000 biliary tract endoscopic operations and over 2000 gallbladder-preserving cholelithotomies. He has published three monographs and more than 50 papers, completed 6 science technology item.

In 2008, Prof. Chiao advocated and established the first and unique Institute of Gallbladder Disease of National Hepatobiliary & Enteric Surgery Research Center, Ministry of Health, Institute of Gallbladder Disease, Guangzhou which was the national academic and scientific research organization conducting research on the gallbladder disease. He is the first man who proposed and explored the new medical development mode—integration of medicine, engineering and trade, forming the industrial chain initially.

Prof. Chiao implements the main thought of prevention steadfastly, and drove the gallbladder-preserving cholelithotomy come into a multidisciplinary combination of clinical technology development, the basic research and the equipment development.

Dr. Chiao and his team have published 9 SCI academic papers and 5 monographs of gallbladder disease, which make great contributions to the development of modern medicine.

The basic research targeting on the clinical demand has provided objective evidence for the prevention of gallbladder stone relapse. Gallbladder stones were broken and grinded, and then observed under light microscope. Clonorchis sinensis eggs were found by microscopy and confirmed by real-time PCR, the detection rate was 64.5%. Therefore, changing the diet habit and taking anti-parasite treatment will reduce the relapse rate of gallbladder stone in epidemic area of clonorchiasis. The original serial research on the microstructure of gallbladder stone, Clonorchis sinensis eggs and bile sediment disclosed the microcosmos of gallbladder stone systematically and discovered the role of Clonorchis sinensis eggs in the formation of gallbladder stone. In the clinic, intramural gallbladder stones were found in the 451 of 1672(26.95%) patients who accepted endoscopic gallbladder-preserving cholelithotomy. So we proposed that the relapse rate of gallbladder stone can be decreased remarkably through the better diagnosis and treatment on the intramural gallbladder stones.

Gallbladder-preserving cholelithotomy can be driven into a new height of the history by the four powerful boosters such as taking prevention as the core, combing with the technology development, the basic research and the equipment development.
